The NWA-ORC project DECIDE (Democratizing AI – Empowering Citizens through Transparent Decision-making) has officially been awarded 6.8 million euro.

A full EWUU consortium participates in the DECIDE consortium, lead by TU Twente. An exciting example of interdisciplinary teamwork with societal impact at its core.

DECIDE addresses a pressing societal challenge: citizens are increasingly confronted with decisions made about them by AI-systems in, for example healthcare and government services. Often without the AI-system being able to explain that decision. The DECIDE project aims to change that.

Our consortium of nearly 50 researchers from 10 different universities—spanning disciplines such as computer science, philosophy, ethics, psychology, law, public administration, and business studies— wants to work together with citizens to develop a new generation of AI systems that are more transparent and democratic. This will give citizens greater control over decisions that affect their lives.

The project will start in autumn.

Project allocated: 6.8 million euro (excluding co-financing in kind of 0.1 million euro)
