You are invited to join us for our online Lunch & Learn Lecture. Are you a teacher, researcher, student or in any other way interested in our collaboration? Every month one of our programmes organises a meeting about research and education of the EWUU alliance. The best part? You can join effortlessly from the comfort of your own space – simply tune in via Teams, grab your lunch, and immerse yourself in thought-provoking discussions.
This Lunch & Learn Lecture will be organised by the EWUU alliance Artificial Intelligence programme.
Date: 20 February 2025
Time: 12:15-13:00
We have two speakers who will give a duo presentation and afterwards there will be a short Q&A session.
Programme:
At UMC Utrecht, we are launching the IMAGINE Open Innovation Lab to accelerate the innovation and adoption of image-guided interventions (IGI). In the open innovation lab, public and private partners are invited to the clinic and collaborate to unlock the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) for IGI and other clinical domains.
Partnering with other institutions and industry leaders, such as Philips, our first major achievement is securing the NWO long-term partnership grant, enabling a €54 million investment over the next 10 years to drive oncology innovations forward. The next aim is to further expand the lab towards other clinical domains and expertise, such as (generative) AI.
Speakers:
Dr. Jon Pluyter is one of the first Philips employees to join us in Utrecht on a weekly basis. Together with Dr. Maarten van Kouwen, UMC Utrecht’s Innovation Officer for IMAGINE, Jon will showcase how this unique collaboration sparks new ideas, accelerates development, advances scientific progress, and most importantly, creates a positive impact for patients, clinical teams, and scientists. Leveraging AI and its potential is a significant challenge in healthcare, requiring new ways of working.
Dr. Maarten van Kouwen is Innovation Officer within the Imaging and Oncology division at UMC Utrecht.
Bio: Dr. Maarten van Kouwen studied Physics at Utrecht University, after which he completed his PhD in Nanotechnology at Delft University of Technology. In 2011, he joined Philips, where he held various roles focused on innovation in the automotive lighting business, and later in a variety of the healthcare domains including Cardiology Informatics.
In 2023, Maarten joined UMC Utrecht as Innovation Officer within the Imaging and Oncology division, becoming part of the Image-Guided Interventions accelerator. In this role, Maarten collaborates with Prof. Dr. Nico van den Berg, Prof. Dr. Lenny Verkooijen, a larger team, and a group of consortium partners to establish, expand, and manage the IMAGINE Open Innovation Lab.
